What We Believe

Prince of Peace is a Christian congregation in the tradition of Martin Luther, a 15th century pastor and theologian whose biblical faith and conviction that God's message for us in Jesus Christ is Good News -- grace, forgiveness, and love -- set off the Protestant Reformation. "Here I stand!" Luther said, in the face of a powerful religious and political opposition. "I can do nothing else."

Our beliefs are deeply rooted in thousands of years of human history, from ancient Judaism to our present time. The themes of our faith are timeless and eternal: God is love. God is mystery. God is in the midst of us.

We believe God is still creating the universe -- not in seven days, but over the millennia, from the Big Bang through the primordial stew. When the appointed time had come, God set aside God's power, and entered into creation in the person of one human being, Jesus of Nazareth. Jesus is the one person whose life, death, and resurrection, reveals to us God's great love, reconciling forgiveness, and future hope for this earth, and for you.

For you. Our belief is that God's great love is for you. It doesn't matter who you are, what language your parents spoke, what country of origin you claim. It doesn't matter if you are man, woman, single, married, or divorced. It doesn't matter if you are heterosexual, homosexual or transsexual. It doesn't matter if you have a GED or a Ph.D. It doesn't matter if you are rich or poor -- although if you are having trouble making ends meet, you are in great company in the Bible. Jesus Christ is for you. And you are welcome here.
